DESCRIPTION AND HOW IT WORKS

            Most of the people of the world like to travel in the places that they have no knowledge and information to begin with, and also the language is the key for building the blocks of communication in the society and the humanity. Apparently, language and the communications of the locals and the foreign is the one of the facets to their success in their journey. The problems like to ask a local person where the place that you’re looking for or you and the local can’t understand each other are just some of the disadvantage and time consuming advocacies.

            Journey Buddy is a mobile image processing-based application for geological locator. Image-based geological locator helps reduce the stress concerning by being required to understand how to correctly type in a foreign text on a text-engine and where is the exact location of the place their looking for, which is exactly what a text-based input locator expectations. One of Journey Buddy’s key features is maintained application data connection. Journey Buddy is designed with a key central database which permits the application in order to process geological location demands and it does not matter connection to the internet. Most similar geological locator applications rely on online databases to process requests thus requiring internet connection in order to function.

Block Diagram of the Journey Buddy application is illustrated in Figure 1. The application process begins with the user runs the installed application “Journey Buddy“ on his or her smart phone. By the use of the camera of the smart phone, the operator or the user records and capture a photo of the text of the place he or she really wants to be located. After the image is successfully recorded or capture, the application shall now allow the user to set specific bounds on the image to further specify the coordinates of the text to be extracted. Segmentation as well as visual image processing will subsequently initiate.  The image processing procedure includes the conversion from grayscale, de-blurring, denoising, and finally contrast enhancement. Upon a success during the process of the image, the application shall now commence the extraction of the text from the processed image through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) ,then the text will be searched in the database and geo locator through google map api.

What if the smart phone is connected to the internet? Journey Buddy will conduct the part of the application, the routine database update checkup via the HTTP request. The Journey Buddy application online server will give a return link to the application whenever a latest database version is already available. By the use of the provided link of the HTTP request callback, the application will initiate the latest database version update. Upon the process of the update will be successful, the application will now query the updated database of the OCR-extracted text and save locations in the google map api.

There are no connection to the internet? Journey Buddy may do the location search within the localized application database. If perhaps location is absolutely not available, the application will indicate appropriate prompt explaining the specific situation. The opposite, Journey Buddy will display the final result of geological location information on the smart phone screen. Additionally, Journey Buddy will implement a database updater system – another web-based application system that will be used to add, edit or delete new translation records to the database and manage database updates for the Journey Buddy line of applications.

Journey Buddy is expected to form promising synergies in the field of education, communication and also in the tourism.
